DEVIATION FESTIVAL

Deviation Festival embraces the action of departing from an established course or accepted standard.”

DEVIATION FESTIVAL curated by the Musterzimmer collective hosts a selection of performances, artworks and moving images that relate to the concept of ‘deviation’ by Berlin-based contemporary artists with international backgrounds. Acud’s exhibition space, stage and club venues will offer a creative set-up for the gathering of deviant minds for the weekend that concludes with an Eat-Art inspired brunch served on Sunday.

The definitions of art and culture are always running hand in hand, a few steps ahead of those who wish to define them. Regardless of us, these definitions seem to have a life of their own and they are always on the run.

DEVIATION encourages everyone to leave their comfort zones and question. Everything. Whereas the definitions of art and culture keep on deviating onto a myriad of courses, Berlin is a multicultural city that tends to attract people who in one way or another represent deviations from their background cultures; whether sexual, ideological or artistic.

BitteBitteJaJa

BitteBitteJaJa is an artistic duo of Roland Rauschmeier (*1974) and Ulu Braun (*1976) that started working together in 1997. Their work deals with the phenomena of everyday life. Through their spontaneous and integrated use of all media, almost in the way of a performance, they create a poetic interpretation of social drama: Where do we come from? Where are we going? What is going on? Unimpressed by criticism and formal deconstruction they create art that ignores false hopes, artistic boredom and intellectual blockades..

LAURI ISOLA

Lauri Isola is visual artist based in Helsinki, Finland. His lens-based and drawing works are often strongly connected to nature – as he is also a part-time forester – and chraterized by uncompromisingly original forms and conceptual layers. He is currently working on solo show in gallery Pictor, Finland.

For Deviation Isola has prepared a video installation that challenges aristotelian dramaturgy. For making the videos he has installed action camera in two contradictionary positions: one into a stream that finds its way through the forest, other one into saw while he is cutting forest. Both forces are beyond individual’s power, as the decisions behind cutting forests are increasingly political. The resulting diptych is visually engaging study of movement, action and landscape.

KRIS VANGO

Explaining his approach to music as “an emotional purge and an exploration into the realms of the universal soul”, producer/visual artist Kris Vango brings together dark fragmented sounds from the techno underground with an ambient space of hope and utopia. Born and raised in Australia, the roots of Vango’s music echo the countries expansive and dramatic landscapes, mirrored against the dark hedonistic shadow-side of the underground club scene of Berlin, where he has been living for the past 4 years. It is Vango’s belief that our sense of existence is interpreted through systems created by our varying global cultures, religions and stories of the universe, he believes the keys to unlocking our human potential are in the overlapping patterns of ancient theories and systems – and reinterpreting them into our modern intellectual observations of the physical world of science and quantum physics. It is this relationship between the physical and non physical aspects of our conscious life on earth that he finds most interesting. His soundscapes reflect and explore these patterns, symbols and systems through the universal language of emotions; art and frequencies. It is the research of these explorations that are expressed through music, inviting the listener to discover aspects of themselves by using sound and music frequencies to interpret the stories of ancient systems, ideologies and systems.
